Well, our house went on the market a few days ago and we have begun the ginormous task of downsizing! This is going to be a big and emotional journey, I’m sure. We do have several advantages that some don’t have. We have moved three times in the past six years. So, we have purged many things during those moves. Another advantage is we are able to store some things in my parents basement for free. Storage is expensive and you will have to decide if this is something you want to invest in if you plan to do full time RVing. I am as sentimental as anyone (well most anyone), but I also know that as American’s we have so much stuff! Stuff we don’t need or ever use. That being said, this past weekend we began going through our garage and listing various items on FB marketplace. We have been pleasantly surprised at how fast these things have sold. We let go of items like our kayaks; some of my craft supplies I haven’t used in ages; an old wine fridge; a 30-year-old freezer that still works with lots of crazy stickers on it; an adjustable table with electrical plugs and USB ports that I used for crafting, among other things. Most of these had little sentimental value, although Albert did text me from work when I told him the freezer had been picked up and said of all the things that are gone he missed that freezer with a sad emoji! I am continuing to go through books. I love books and have tons left over from my seminary days that I haven’t looked at in years. Things like home decor, frames and most of our kitchen gadgets we plan to store. We also purged and merged quite a few totes in the garage with keepsakes and old papers. We are currently using this type of tote! They are heavy duty, have snap lids and are stackable. We also plan to buy some airtight containers and space saver bags for items that are susceptible to moisture and mold in my parent’s basement.
