A little over a year ago, shortly after another move, Albert found himself in a familiar place—frustrated with the industry he had worked in for years and discouraged that, despite new opportunities and fresh promises, nothing ever seemed to change. Once again, he realized he was simply…done.
One evening we started tossing around what felt like ridiculous “what if” ideas. You know the kind—the dreams you talk about but never really expect to pursue. Somewhere in that conversation, the idea of full-time RV living appeared.
To this day, we can’t remember exactly how it came up or who first said it.
But once it did, we couldn’t stop thinking about it.
We started watching a few YouTube channels from full-time RVers. At first it was simply entertaining. Then it became exciting. Before long, we found ourselves asking, Why not us?
The more we researched, however, the more we realized this wasn’t some extended vacation. It would require selling our home, downsizing nearly everything we owned, changing careers, and completely rethinking how we lived. It wasn’t a decision for the faint of heart.
Since we had just moved less than a year earlier, we decided to put the dream on the shelf.
And we prayed.
Over the following year, very little changed. Despite new management, new promises, and renewed hope, Albert’s work situation actually got worse. One day it hit us how quickly another entire year had passed while we were still feeling stuck.
That’s when we took the dream back off the shelf.
For the past several months we’ve spent countless hours researching everything we can. RV brands. Floor plans. Campgrounds. Budgets. Internet. Remote work. Maintenance. The real costs. The good, the bad, and yes…the ugly.
There is so much to learn.
We’ve discovered that full-time RV life isn’t always easier—it comes with a different set of challenges. But it also offers something we’ve been craving for a long time: freedom, simplicity, flexibility, and adventure.
And that’s what brings us here today.
Financial Freedom
The biggest reason for making this change is financial.
Because of the timing of our last move and the housing market, our mortgage payment more than doubled. That monthly payment became a constant source of pressure and left Albert feeling trapped in a job he no longer enjoyed.
We’ve loved reconnecting with old friends since moving back, but after only two years, this house has never truly felt like home.
Our plan is to purchase a quality used RV using a portion of the equity from our home. By doing that, we’ll be able to eliminate our debt and create a lifestyle with far less financial pressure.
As for work, I absolutely love what I do and plan to continue doing it for many years. Albert has a background in leadership development and personal and professional coaching, and he’s excited to explore those opportunities again while also pursuing remote work. There are many ways full-time RVers earn a living, and we’ll be sharing more about that journey as we go.
Being Present for Our Parents
Another reason this lifestyle is so meaningful to us is our parents.
At this stage of life, we realize how incredibly blessed we are to still have all four of our parents. Three are in their eighties, and one is seventy-eight.
Time is precious.
Rather than spending all of our free time maintaining a house or being tied to one location, we want the flexibility to spend extended time with each of them—to help with projects around the house, lend a hand when needed, share meals, make memories, and simply be present.
They have sacrificed so much for us throughout our lives.
We don’t want to take these years for granted.
Seeing More of God’s Creation
Travel has always been something we love.
We’ve been fortunate to visit some incredible places over the years, but we’ve barely scratched the surface of our own country.
We dream of exploring more national parks, mountain ranges, winding back roads, charming small towns, and rugged coastlines. We’d love to experience the beauty of Canada and maybe even Mexico one day.
One of the greatest blessings of this lifestyle is that we’ll also be able to spend more time with family and friends scattered across the country and world! Our youngest daughter and her soon-to-be husband are moving to Nepal next year and we can’t wait to go visit!
Choosing a Simpler Life
If we’re honest, one of the things we’re looking forward to most is simply…less.
Less stuff.
Less maintenance.
Less rushing.
Less pressure to keep up.
Somehow as Americans we have come to believe that more possessions equal a better life, but we’ve discovered the opposite is often true.
Less can actually create space for more.
More conversations around a campfire.
More slow mornings with coffee.
More books.
More hikes.
More sunsets.
More meaningful relationships.
More opportunities to serve others.
We want to be intentional about growing spiritually, emotionally, physically, and as a couple. We hope to build healthier daily rhythms, spend more time outdoors, and continue becoming the people God created us to be.
The Adventure Ahead
We’re under no illusion that full-time RV life will always be easy.
Things will break.
Plans will change.
There will be unexpected expenses, difficult days, and moments when we’ll wonder what we were thinking.
But we believe the freedom, financial peace, time with family, opportunities to travel, and simpler way of living will far outweigh the challenges.
As we walk this road, we promise to share it honestly.
The beautiful moments.
The difficult moments.
The mistakes.
The lessons.
The victories.
And everything in between.
Our hope is that by sharing our journey, you’ll find encouragement to pursue whatever dream has been sitting quietly on your own shelf.
Life is simply too precious to live with fear, regret, or “someday.”
So here’s to choosing courage over comfort.
Here’s to embracing the unknown.
