Officially we have been empty nesters for a little while now. It is definitely a strange season. Our story is unique in that we didn’t have time just the two of us when we first got married. Read our story here. We did and do miss our girls, but it’s also been a sweet time together just the two of us. The past few years have also been difficult as my husband has navigated his work saga and all that is involved in that. Even in the midst of this we have enjoyed so many things together. It is a season of evaluating who you are and mourning dreams or previous visions of life that did not come to pass. It’s a season of reinventing yourself in a sense…discovering new hobbies, wanting to travel, enjoying books or TV shows you never had time to read or watch. A few weeks ago my husband even asked to play Monopoly on a Sunday afternoon. We have never done that without the kids! I am now in my 50’s and in some ways feel more settled and confident in who I am than I ever have. I don’t care what people think as much as I used to. I know what I like, my strengths and weaknesses. It is very freeing in a lot of ways. I am so thankful for God’s grace and faithfulness in my life and feel His nearness and want to please Him in every way now more than ever. I have a clearer vision of what’s important and what really isn’t. Have you struggled or are you struggling with becoming an empty nester? A while back I put together a printable downloadable journal to help people process this new season of life. Check it out here in my Etsy Store.

I also highly recommend this book if you are a follower of Christ for this season of life! It forces you during life transitions to look at your life, your failures and your future with sobriety, but with the utmost of hope because of the grace of Jesus!

I would love to hear your thoughts and how you have processed this stage of life! And remember, live a life with Nothing Reserved!
