We are still waiting.
Waiting for the house to sell.
We’ve had some interest, but things are moving slowly. We do have a showing scheduled for this week, so we’re hopeful that maybe this will be the one.
But waiting is hard.
Especially when you know exactly what you’re waiting for.
We’ve spent so much time researching RVs, boondocking, routes, internet options, and all the things that come with this new life we’re dreaming about. See our post about research here! We’re ready to go. And yet…we can’t go anywhere quite yet.
We’re in that strange space between the life we’ve known and the life we’re preparing to live.
And honestly, I, Marla, feel a little disoriented. I am seeking the Lord as I sit in this place, asking Him to teach me more about myself and to reveal Himself in deeper ways. Do I have to be constantly entertained or always productive? What is that about? Waiting always reveals our hearts and what’s truly important.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had something going. A hobby. A project. Something to organize, create, plan, or accomplish. But so many of those things have been packed away as we’ve prepared to sell the house and eventually move into our RV.
So what do you do when you’ve packed away your projects, your future is still uncertain, and you’re ready for the next chapter to begin?
You wait.
And maybe you learn something in the process.

Learning to Wait
I don’t want this to sound like a complaint.
We have so much to be thankful for.
Albert has left his job, which in itself feels like a pretty big step toward the life we’ve been talking about for so long. He has some hopeful possibilities for part-time work, and we’re trusting that something will come together. There is some anxiety there too, of course, if the house doesn’t sell soon.
And while we’re waiting, we’re still living.
Last week, we went to the beach on a completely random Friday.
Because why not?
We’ve been cooking fun summer meals, enjoying our garden, going to church, and spending time with friends. I am still working. I am a counselor and I walk with hurting people and that is so important and life-giving to me.
We’re finding little ways to enjoy the life we have right now instead of constantly waiting for the life we think will be better.
And maybe that’s the lesson.

This Is Practice
We’ve talked so much about wanting a simpler, slower life.
But maybe you don’t just wake up one day and suddenly know how to live slowly.
Maybe you have to practice.
Maybe this waiting season is part of the preparation.
We’re learning to be okay with an unfinished plan.
We’re learning that not every day needs to be productive.
We’re learning to enjoy a Friday at the beach without needing a reason.
We’re trying new recipes just because we can.
We’re learning to sit in the uncertainty and still be grateful.
And we’re learning that sometimes the best thing we can do is stop trying to hurry the next chapter and enjoy the page we’re currently on.
There Is Still So Much Ahead
And the truth is, we have some pretty exciting things ahead.
Our baby is getting married in just a few weeks, and we’re headed to Hawaii!
Here’s a pic of us on the Big Island several years ago! Read more of our story here!

So while we’re waiting for the house to sell and waiting for the next piece of our RV adventure to fall into place, we’re also preparing to celebrate something incredibly special.
Life doesn’t stop just because we’re waiting for something else to begin.
That’s probably the biggest thing I’m learning.
You can be excited about what’s coming without missing what’s happening right now.
Maybe that’s what this season is really about.
Not rushing.
Not forcing.
Not constantly looking toward the next thing.
Just being here.
Being still with the Lord and each other.
Being grateful.
Making dinner.
Going to the beach on a Friday.
Laughing with friends.
Enjoying and serving our church and community.
Dreaming about what’s ahead.
And waiting.
Maybe this is what Nothing Reserved is really about—not simply living boldly or chasing big dreams, but being willing to fully live wherever we are.
Even here.
Even now.
Even in the waiting.
And Speaking of Summer…
While we’re waiting, we’ve been having a lot of fun in the kitchen.
Albert recently made this simple shrimp and sun-dried tomato pasta, and it was the perfect summer meal—light, flavorful, fresh, and hearty enough that we didn’t feel like we were eating “just a salad.”
And the best part?
It’s incredibly easy.
Summer Shrimp & Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta

Ingredients
- Organic or Italian-made pasta, cooked
- Shrimp, sautéed in butter
- Sun-dried tomatoes
- Fresh basil (ours came straight from our garden!)
- Good olive oil
- Crushed red pepper flakes
- Shredded Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Toss everything together while the pasta is warm, drizzle with a little olive oil, add as much crushed red pepper and Parmesan cheese as you like, and finish it with plenty of fresh basil.

That’s it.
Simple food. Summer evening. No rush.
And honestly, that sounds pretty good to me.
Because maybe we’re already living a little bit of the slower life we’re dreaming about.
We just didn’t realize it yet.
What are you waiting for right now?
And more importantly…
What could you enjoy while you’re waiting?
Here’s to good food, meaningful moments and living life with Nothing Reserved.
Marla
